When I first started talking to Alstom about becoming involved with the Run for Clean Air, it didn't take me long to decide that they would be a great fit as the major sponsor for our humble event.
Alstom is the world's leading supplier of air quality control systems to utility plants and other industrial plants, helping to control such pollutants as sulfur dioxide, mercury and nitrogen oxides. The local Knoxville office is 100% focused on air quality control systems and employs approximately 350 personnel. However, clean air is not the only business in which Alstom is involved. Globally, Alstom designs and builds modern, efficient power plants, high-speed rail cars, lines and equipment, and is prominent in many types of power-based R&D, including CO2 capture technology. In fact, Alstom's fourth generation AGV train holds the world rail speed record at 357.8 mph! They also have a turbine division, a hydro division and a new wind division that offers turnkey services and equipment for building wind farms - from civil engineering to installation to commissioning.
In a nutshell, Alstom helps reduce pollution at today's power and utility plants, helps increase efficiency at power plants, provides renewable energy systems and is a forerunner in carbon capture technology. And they are one of the world's leading sources for high-speed rail systems, which is at the top of the list of the cleanest and most efficient
ways to move people en mass.
The values that our coalition holds seemed to mesh well with the values, products and services that Alstom has and a partnership was born. Thus, we are pleased to announce Alstom as this year's Run for Clean Air title sponsor.
Julie Simpson and Paul Traccarella (pictured below) have joined the Run Committee and are our envoys from Alstom. Please feel free to contact one of them or me if you have any questions about Alstom or our partnership.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Overly, Executive Director
The East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition
